Soccket
April 29, 2011 No CommentsI ran across this absolutely genius idea that I could not pass up writing about. Being an avid soccer player who has played ever since she was 5 years old, I cannot help put want one of these soccer balls. I keep a soccer ball in my hatchback because you never know when your going to need it, that’s how soccer oriented I am.
Anyway, the product. It is called Socket. These amazing women, Jessica Lin, Jessica Matthews, Julia Silverman, and Hemali Thakkar came up with this great idea to help the children in Africa. It is a soccer ball that creates electricity as you play. According to the website, with just 15 minutes of playing soccer, the ball will create 3 hours of power for an LED light. This is a big deal, because you can plug straight into the ball to use that light. While I have never been to Africa, I know that the children there are always playing soccer so what else would be a better idea than a soccer ball that helps their community. In Africa, most people do not have the power to sustain electricity since it is such a poor country.
I think we need more ingenious ideas. Keep up the great work ladies, and good luck with the testing in Africa. I hope for all of us it becomes better and better. What do you think about Soccket? I am very interested to learn more and will definitely be following up with this idea.
