Shooting Up
May 28, 2011 No CommentsThat expression conjures images of junkies in a dark alley getting high. While it can just as apply describe a gamer who has just loaded up a “shooter” game. Gaming is a recreational activity that people sacrifice a good amount of time to. But where do we draw the line, at what point does it stop being just a game? I would like to think that people can be smart about the things in life that they enjoy but I am starting to think that people are kind of dumb in general, when it comes to regulating themselves. I am a gamer; in fact I am one of the biggest gamers in my circle of friends. While that fact alone doesn’t make me an addict, the fact that I think about games pretty much all the time does. I have found positive ways of using this addiction, for instance I am active in the stock market and watch what the gaming company are talking about and invest accordingly.
The idea really gets most of its examples from people who lose touch with the real world or invest so much time into a game that they start to lose the people they care most about. I think that gaming, even with it addictive properties, is a good thing. And even if you really do have an addiction to gaming, just remember you own them, they don’t own you… Well most of the time at least.
