Every hour in the US someone is diagnosed with MS.  Multiple Sclerosis is a debilitating disease that affects the central nervous system by disrupting the flow of information from the brain to the body.  The immune system attacks the central nervous system leaving scars in multiple points in the system.  Anyone can get MS, but it more prominent in women and those of northern European descent, but symptoms can start in anyone at anytime.

Coming up this weekend, the Gateway Area Chapter of the MS Society is holding its annual walk to raise awareness, and money “to create a world free of MS.”  The MS Walk and Biking events are happening in many areas throughout the surrounding St. Louis area.  Many volunteers are needed to help in the races in many different capacities from safety to photographers.

No cure has been found for MS yet, but with continued research and fundraising through events like MS Walk, more advances are being made.  Many treatments have been found to curb the symptoms, but no official cure has been found at this time.
