The Small Business Solution
September 21, 2011 No CommentsWith our sluggish economy going nowhere, fast, experts are trying to decide how best to turn it all around. A recent article in USA Today believes the solution is small businesses. “Small business is, and always has been, the engine that moves the country forward. So if the stagnant political class really wants to get this country moving again, and help reassert our rightful place as the most innovative, entrepreneurial, industrious place on the globe, they need to start enacting policies and programs that do one thing – help small businesses and entrepreneurs.”
With this theory in mind, the author calls for a comprehensive 21st Century Entrepreneurship Act. Within such an act, you’d find legislation that cultivates business startups and fosters entrepreneurial growth. Organizations such as Amazon and Starbucks serve as examples of where small businesses can go if given the opportunity.
“A comprehensive 21st Century Entrepreneurship Act would include tax reform, and regulatory ease. It would include, as SBA administrator Karen Mills recently wrote, immigration reform so we can again attract the best and brightest entrepreneurs and engineers to our country. It would increase access to capital. It would help more startups start up. It would foster business incubators and programs like Business Matchmaking.”
Businesses such as TriLeaf Designs would benefit from the reform such an act would provide. The support provided by this act would reinforce the confidence our country has in small businesses and reinvigorate entrepreneurial spirit—both of which will help boast our economy.
