New Year’s Resolutions
December 27, 2011 No CommentsThe New Year is a time when you start fresh, a clean slate. A New Year, a new you. Many people make a resolution (or resolutions). Something they wish to change about themselves or their lives. This can be anything from getting more exercise, to getting back in touch with old friends.
Recent polling shows that 40-45% of American adults make one or more resolutions a year. The number of people who stick to their resolution is lowered by 46% after six months. A personal resolution can prove to be a very difficult thing to stay committed to. Many people stray from their path because of lack of inspiration, or they just don’t have the time to continue their routine.
If you are a business owner, you can have a New Year’s resolution for your workplace as well. A business resolution doesn’t have to be a big, drastic change like moving to a new office or attempting to go international. It can be simple. Something like boosting co-worker morale or attending more conferences to bring in more clients.
For small business owners, one major resolution to consider is going mobile. Over 15% of google searches today are done from a mobile device. By 2015, it is expected that more people will search google and other similar search engines from their smart phones than they will from their computers.
Another possible resolution for a small business is social networking in person. Business is driven by referrals, connections and relationships. This could mean attending more conferences and definitely means meeting with people face-to-face to get your business out there. Meeting in person, while it takes more time and effort, is much more effective than meeting over a social networking site. The person who you are meeting with is not reading a blurb online about your business or conversing solely through e-mail. They get a chance to meet the real man or woman behind the business. This makes the experience much more personable.
Whatever your resolution may be, the New Year can be a time to give your business a new, fresh feel in addition to giving yourself a change. Any thoughts?
