Music Matters in the Workplace

Music in the workplace is a trend gaining speed and support in today’s rough business climate. So does listening to music while you work really serve to benefit productivity and performance? Recent studies have found that music in the workplace can be a positive influence if utilized correctly.
One study found that music has the ability to improve employees’ physical health. While some dispute these findings, few can fight the claim that with better health comes less absenteeism and better job performance. This same study also found that music in the workplace improves employees’ willingness to co-operate with one another and be helpful. Collaboration and teamwork are essential elements of a successful business. With these findings in mind, a growing business could benefit greatly by adding something as simple and inexpensive as music to the workplace.
More research on the subject found that music in the workplace tends to increase employee morale. In industries and businesses that require workers to complete repetitive tasks, music can make all the difference. Music provides these workers with an upbeat and continually-changing focus. We’ve all experience the uplifting and motivating ability of a good song. Such an experience can translate to the workplace and lead to improved job satisfaction, productivity, and employee retention.
