How to Recycle Things
August 9, 2011 No CommentsGiving (and Getting) Stuff for Free in Your Own Town
Like most people, I like to shop and I like to shop for things that are free. Better yet, I like to shop for things that are free and can help the environment. At Freecycle.com, that is exactly what they do. Freecycle.com is an entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reusing items and keeping good stuff out of landfills. You can find numerous items on the web site from homecare to office supplies and if you operate a business, you can also sign up for freecycle@work, which allows co-workers to buy and sell between themselves. Local volunteers moderate each local group and everything, even membership, is free. This is an easy and very useful alternative to throwing items in the garbage in decreasing amount of trash in landfills.
This web site is kind of like Craigslist meets goodwill but better. I searched for a few items and I actually found some useful things such as used office furniture and even supplies. I can see a site like this gaining popularity in the future. Has anyone ever visited a site like this before? What did you buy?
