Party Green

Did you know that energy saved from one recycled aluminum can will operate a TV set for 3 hours, and is the equivalent to half a can of gasoline? Or that mining and transporting raw materials for glass produces about 385 pounds of waste for every ton of glass that is made. If recycled glass is substituted for half of the raw materials, the waste is cut by more than 80%. This information can be found at greeniacs.com & here, where they go into the details of recycling and how it is beneficial. What I would like to point out from this information is that aluminum cans and bottles as well as glass bottles can typically be found at parties together, and this is the time of year when some people start celebrating certain events and holidays, like Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, Spring Break or the Fourth of July. So if you are throwing a party, take these facts into consideration and put out recycling bins for everyone to throw their glass and aluminum in to so that we can cut back on the waste as much as possible. Let us know if you have any other ideas on how people can party green.
