Dependence on Petroleum Products
April 13, 2011 No CommentsI had never realized just how dependent our society and way of life is to oil and other petrochemicals. The first step towards reducing our petro dependence is to realize what products we use are manufactured with petrochemicals.
I know that gasoline comes from oil, but I was amazed at how many other things we use daily come from oil or petrochemicals. Soapless detergents, compact discs, plastic bottles, pen ink, candle wax, plant fertilizers, food additives in canned foods, bandages (both the plastic and the non stick pad), as well as many of the synthetic man-made fibers and synthetic rubbers, as well as materials used to make clothing, shoes, carpet, and curtains all come from petrochemicals. Did you know that? Check out the World of Oil for more info about this topic. Can you eliminate any of these products from your daily life to help make us less dependent on oil?
