April 11, 2011 3 CommentsTurn Easter Candy Wrappers Into Something Useful
According to earth911.com, currently there is not much hope for life after garbage/recycle bin for candy wrappers once they are tossed out. Since most are made of mixed materials, recycling candy wrappers is a problem. “Candy wrappers are usually made up of mixed materials, making the recovery of useful materials difficult and expensive.” However, there are alternative methods to throwing away wrappers. A company called TerraCycle works on “upcycling” candy wrappers into useful products like backpacks, totes, cell phone covers and more. This is a great thing to keep in mind, especially this time of year with Easter just around the corner. If you would like to get more information on Terracycle and/or the process of recycling candy wrappers, visit their site.
Let us know what you think! Here’s another candy fact for you from dosomething.org: “More than 20,000,000 Hershey’s Kisses are wrapped each day, using 133 square miles of tinfoil. All that foil is recyclable, but not many people realize it.”
