Turn Your Trash Into Household Tools
August 12, 2011 1 CommentAccording to the Clean Air Council, every year U.S. consumers toss out enough plastic and paper cups and flatware to make 300 cycles around the equator. That’s a lot. Recycling is one of the best ways for everyone to have a positive impact on the world in which we live by reducing the amount of trash, which ends up in landfills. Here are a few ways to turn your trash into something useful.
- Twist ties come on many different items such as a loaf of bread or electronic cords. Instead of throwing the ties away use them as a fashion accessory. Attach the tie to the end of a belt or around a scarf to keep it in place. The ties come in several different colors and would hardly be noticeable.
- Many individual frozen desserts come in a small foil pan, which can be reused. The recycled tin is great for warming up french fries, sandwiches and other quick meals or they can be placed under plants to catch excess water.
- Sheet sets, comforters, and blankets are often sold in packaging that can be re-used for household storage. Reuse this packaging to hold jewelry, socks or if it’s big enough, winter clothing.
I particularly love tip #1. I see a lot of girls, including myself, trying be fashionable with the belts and scarves but it doesn’t work well when they are flying all over the place. The twist ties make a real difference and are durable enough to last. Which have you tried? How did it work out?
