Esty.com Find: Autumn Headpiece
September 20, 2011 No CommentsIf you haven’t heard, etsy.com is a website that provides do-it-yourselfers a place to sell their homemade pieces, and many of them are absolutely beautiful. On the site you can get anything from furniture to homemade dog treats for your pup. The great thing about it is that people who partake in arts and crafts and DIY projects often keep and reuse materials instead of throwing out perfectly good pieces of cloth or fake flowers that may be used for another project. This is great for consumers because they are getting unique, homemade items, but this is also encouraging for those who are interested in reusing their own materials to make useful items that they can sell.
Pictured below is a piece I found made by Moth & Bayleaf which is located in Ireland. They make their pieces out of a mixture of vintage materials, feathers, costume and precious jewelery and handmade/handsewn detailing. All of their pieces are made from materials that you can get at local arts and craft shops (aside from the jewelry perhaps), but what makes their work stand out is that they have an eye for color and their accessories are one of a kind, so when you wear it to a special event, you can feel unique and confident that you will be the only one there wearing that particular headpiece.
The reason I really enjoy browsing etsy.com is because I admire the people who take the time to make such unique and lovely crafts and it encourages people to make their own items and accessories which can easily be created out of things you may have normally thrown away. Saving and reusing materials prevents waste and is therefore good for the environment. Below is text I took from their “About Us” page on their blog that I think really defines their meaning and purpose:
“Here on this blog we report on issues that matter to Etsy members — like supporting independent businesses and artists, eating well, living sustainably. Together we’re going to define what it means to live the handmade life, and how goods can relate to the common good.”
So if you are interested, please check out their website and let us know if you find any creative pieces that catch your eye.
