Art & Trash: Milk Carton Birdhouse

A great way to recycle with your kids

Being green is all about using a resource to its full potential, even after you’ve already used it for its original purpose. This little project is a great way to teach your kids to get as much as they can out of everything. For this little arts and crafts project, you will be making a birdhouse out of only a used milk carton. To do this, just clean and dry a used milk carton. Once it is dry, cover the milk carton in masking tape, and then rub paint polish over the masking tape and remove the tape afterwards. (This will give the milk carton a tree bark look.) Once that is done, cut a 1-½ inch hole about 4 inches from the bottom of the carton. Then poke a few holes in the bottom of the carton as well as the top for ventilation. Once that is done, just poke a hole in the feeder of the carton and pull a wire through the hole and hang! This project is a great recycling opportunity and I’m sure the birds will thank you for it!
