Spotify: My Time With it
September 30, 2011 No CommentsSo last month I told you about Spotify, the online music player. I’ve been using it for a while and while it does have a good selection of music to choose from, it’s not without its apparent flaws. In the month and some weeks I’ve had to experience with this online application, I have a bit of a review for the free version of it.
Like I said the music selection is great, I had no trouble finding anything and the list of music was very extensive. The biggest complaint I have with Spotify is the ads. Now I understand that as a free application, most of their money is made through advertisements, so to complain that there are ads at all is not the point. What bothers me is the amount and frequency. With most other free services I’ve used, ads were limited to banners taking up screen space, or a quick commercial that played between music and videos. Spotify decides that both of these methods are ok, and it’s done in the most obnoxious way. And the worst part is? They add up. If an ad hasn’t played for a while, they compensate by playing ads one after the other. No way.
Now if you’re already using another online music player for free, I suggest sticking with that. The amount and frequency of ads in Spotify just don’t make it worth it, and it gets an overall grade of C if I had to give it any score.
