iPad—King of Tablets
November 8, 2011 No CommentsCNET News has a nice article about iPad and its competitors.
Apple’s iPad was a landmark product. The tablet launched a whole new concept to compete with. Companies have had their versions of Apple products such as iPods and iPhones. Some of these have had relative success. The iPad, however, has not quite been matched.
Google’s Android Honeycomb is basically a tablet version of the Android. It runs Android apps as well as apps designed specifically for it. Its start into the tablet market was not as smooth as expected though. Google’s Android Honeycomb is not going to outdo Apple’s iPad without lowering its price and increasing its apps.
Microsoft Windows’ Slate PCs have the best chance to compete with Apple’s iPad. Instead of merely imitating iPad’s interface, Microsoft went and made their own ARM processors. Microsoft has to be the biggest competitor to Apple, no matter the product. If given enough time, Windows 8 on a Slate PC may be just as good or better than an Apple iPad.
What do you think? Will any tablet surpass Apple’s iPad? Is Apple going to be the innovator for most things technological? Will Microsoft and Apple be the two main rivals for years to come and dominate the industry?
