Steady Cam
July 20, 2011 No CommentsRecently I have been in the need for a good steady cam to use for some productions. Little did I know I would not have to spend a couple hundred dollars on a new one. I found out that you are able to create a well working, and very reliable steady cam out of your own camera tripod.
It first starts with adjusting one leg so that it stays at a 90 degree angle(you might have to unscrew some things) which will act as your handle. This leg will be pointed vertically which will require you to adjust your camera mount so that it sits on a flat horizontal plane with the tripod sitting horizontal also. The remaining 3 legs act as a counter balance and also allows you to adjust the weight by extending or retracting the legs.
This actually works amazingly well and I’m about to test the quality in an upcoming video shoot. I cant wait to see what effects it will give me.
Its a wonderful trick and could save you some well deserved time and cash. Give it a try!
