What Makes a Logo Great
August 9, 2011 No CommentsAlthough logos are smaller and sometimes less detailed than other design projects, their importance and the thought that must go into creating one does not mirror their size. When a designer sits down to create a logo, they have to come up with one single graphic that encapsulates the identity of an entire company. On top of that, the image they come up with has to be relatively simple so that it is able to be sized down if necessary. A designer must create a logo that is able to be printed and placed on all types of things: letterheads, shirts, water bottles, pens, signs, stress balls etc. That is one thing they have to keep in mind before they even begin creating the logo. It is also important that the designer keeps time in mind. An ideal logo will have the ability to last over time, with minor updates being made every few years or so. This is because your logo and marketing is what people will start to recognize your business by, so you want something that you can use for years and years to come without having to completely redesign so that people can continue to associate things they see in public with your brand. If you don’t believe me, just look up logos done for Ford, Apple, Shell, BMW, Pepsi, Wal Mart and so on. If you keep completely rebranding your company every two years, people won’t be able to get familiar with the icon that represents the product or service you can offer them, and if they aren’t able to get familiar with the identity of your company, they won’t think to come to you first when they need something you can offer. In conclusion, the design of your logo is very important because that one image is what people’s first impression will be of your company, so it needs to reflect everything you have to offer in one little vector image.
