What is Design?: Keep it Simple

While sometimes things need to be very complex to get the point across, other times people make things way too complicated. While at a wedding meeting one night, I was talking with a priest, and he made a good point. He said sometimes the most beautiful weddings are the simple ones where the focus is on the couple and not the decor, party favors and what not. This being said, I realized that this most definitely can be applied to graphic design. You want one thing to be the main focus and everything to just be secondary elements that complement the main idea. If you can, I suggest going simple. Which do you prefer, complexity or simplicity in design?
